What is Brazillian Jui Jitsu (BJJ)?

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is a martial art and combat sport focusing on ground fighting and submission grappling. It emphasizes techniques that allow smaller individuals to defend themselves against larger opponents using leverage and skill.

Do I need any experience to join Platinum Jiu Jistu?

No experience is necessary to join our classes. We welcome beginners as well as advanced practitioners. Our instructors will guide you through the fundamentals and help you progress at your own pace.

What to Expect for My First Class?

A normal class will consist of a warm-up, going through basic movements and some drills. We go through technique, positional training, then into open sparring each class. The morning after, it is completely normal to be sore; this is part of the process! Everyone is super friendly and helpful. Having new training partners is crucial to learning, so come with an open mind to learn!

What should I wear to my first class?

For your first class, wear comfortable athletic clothing such as a t-shirt and shorts or leggings. If you have a Gi, feel free to wear it. We also recommend bringing a water bottle and a towel.

What is the difference between GI and NOGI classes?

Gi classes involve wearing the traditional BJJ uniform, which includes a jacket and pants. NoGi classes are practiced in athletic wear such as rash guards and shorts. The techniques in both styles are similar, but the grips and strategies can vary due to the presence or absence of the Gi.

What to Bring for Class?

Gi class - Kimono (gi) and belt
No Gi class - Rash guard and shorts (No spats only). T-Shirts and Shorts are fine (no zippers)
All classes - Drink bottle, sweat towel, mouth guard, and a positive attitude!
